Translation Qualifications
I graduated from Aston University, Birmingham in 1995 with 2(i) BSc in Modern Languages
(Joint Honours French & German, including study units in translation), and was awarded
the John Stagg Memorial Prize for excellent achievement in the final
Written German Paper.
I gained the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Advanced Certificate in Marketing in 1998.
Career
As part of my degree course I spent 12 months in 1993-94 working at the Hernstein International Management
Institute in Vienna, Austria, an organisation providing management training to businesses.
After graduation, I joined the commercial department of Lewis Tankers Ltd, a Yorkshire-based road transport
company providing services to a number of multi-national chemical companies. I had particular
responsibility for day to day dealings with the company’s international client base, in which capacity my
language skills were a great asset. Latterly I was employed as Contract Manager dealing with a large
Hamburg-based world-wide tank container operator.
Since the end of 2004 I have been working as a freelance translator and language services provider and am also
involved in a project to broaden access to foreign language learning in the European haulage industry. [TruckspeakTM]
I’m married to Miles, a farmer who has a degree in mechanical engineering, and is a ready source of
information on all subjects mechanical and agricultural! We’re currently working on a project to
produce biodiesel for use on the farm.
